stitching, quilting, fabric, projects
Just had a lovely evening at City Quilter.
Sarah Fielke was there with her family and publisher promoting her new book “Hand Quilted with Love”. She showed us some of the quilts from her book and let us touch them!
This is the quilt on the cover, beautifully hand quilted of course. She had a “little chat with us” – her own words and told us how she hand appliques, sometimes for 13 hours a day. Her fabric designs are printed by Spotlight and are only available in Australia unfortunately.
While I was there I did have a tour of the shop and picked up just one blue fat quarter for my “bee” quilt and some gorgeous hand dyed thread called “lavender mist” by Caron. Dale showed us the new Grand Central fabrics that had just arrived that afternoon, which I resisted even though they had one in duck egg (robins egg) blue of the ceiling.
The gallery also had an amazing exhibition by fibre artist Deb Hyde
(you can see her work in the background behind Sarah). Her surfaces are made up of 1/2″ squares of fabric, carefully selected and placed to create portraits, with a trip around the world quilt pattern emerging from the skin tones. Stunning!
And then on to Eaterly for a glass of Prosecco on the roof.
