We’ve just spent the weekend with friends in New Orleans. A whistle stop tour led by the lovely Sarah included a Zephyrs baseball game, a colourful parade along Bourbon Street, jazz at Preservation Hall (thank you Neil), Hurricane cocktails, gumbo, jambalaya, shopping in the French Market, vintage thrifting, upcycled furniture on Magazine Street, fantastic architecture and a boat trip on the bayou.
There was a free jazz festival in full swing so the place was heaving with people partying, very colourful characters and lots of cocktails. New Orleans has an open policy allowing drinks on the streets, unusual for the US. It means that everyone is free to roam around and soak up the atmosphere, listen to the music in various venues and all in all have a good time. It also means everyone is very merry 24 hours a day!
I can’t believe I didn’t take any pics of the partying…… but don’t ferns go well with ironwork!
The boat ride along the bayou was a quiet interlude to the craziness.
And look what I bought home as a momento of our trip! (…………no not the alligator)
Snowflake garland blue Pyrex….found in the French Quarter………. I know how to have a good time 🙂

Hi Mandy, your travelogue brought back so many happy memories of exotic new Orleans. So lively, so colourful. X
Wow Ilse, you have been everywhere, I’m playing catch up! We did have fun 🙂
I’d love to visit New Orleans, it looks great!
It is party city, my shots aren’t typical. Body painting, colourful costumes, musicians, bikers……..not just for Mardi Gras. It was on our “to do” list, I’d recommend it, there’s so much to see.
It’s on my (long) list of places to visit! 🙂
New Orleans looks and sounds like a lot of fun! (apart from the alligator – eek!) 🙂
I would much rather have photos of the bayou than revelers any day!!! And your “find” is a treasured memory of the fun you had. Gumbo, etc, is such a fantastic cuisine and one that is not always well duplicated in other parts of the country. Thanks so much for sharing!!!!
I too would love to visit New Orleans. I cant help thinking of that architectural fat quarter you shared a while back and how it reminded me of New Orleans. I’m glad you had a great time.
Ooooh yes, you’re right, crazy! New Zealand or New Orleans? (Love a fat quarter http://wp.me/p2tTFZ-tG by Nutex NZ)
What a fabulous trip – looks like great fun! Love the Pyrex dish.
Haha, thought you might. What’s a girl to buy when she can’t get fabric!
Moi jealous? NO .. I’m always this shade of green…..brilliant photos 🙂
You certainly packed it in! Looks great. Very envious-not just the bowl!
The boys would have loved Preservation Hall. A really old building providing the stage for well established trad jazz musicians to pass on their skills. With three shows a night the queue was right round the block. Lucky we had some insider info to stand in line early! Hands off my bowl! – I’ve been seeing a lot of the avocado Pyrex recently 🙂
How wonderful! I was fortunate to live in New Orleans for 12 years…enjoyed every minute (though it probably took 10 years off my life 😉
Wow, sounds like it had to be done!
Indeed;) I am a better woman for it!
