A bit about the Quilt Alliance…….

“Our mission is to document, preserve and share the stories of (all) quilts and (all) quiltmakers. We encourage everyone who makes quilts to enter our annual contest regardless of their style (traditional, modern, art) or technique (longarm, hand quilting, applique, pieced…) –all are welcomed and valued!”

For the theme “inspired by” we were invited to look through the quilt index and choose a quilt that spoke to us (www.quiltindex.org)

The auction of all 92 quilts will take place 10th November – 1st December. You can go to the QA home page to see the auction quilts and the original inspirations. The 2015 contest has been announced if you’d like to make a quilt for next year.

Quilters Take Manhattan is this coming weekend 20th September 2014. It is organized by The Quilt Alliance and is sold out! I’m very excited to be going and I’ve also got onto a colour workshop by the key note speaker Amy Butler over in Brooklyn on Sunday!

Yes Vikky, the simplicity and colours of the “modern” quilt by Edith and Edna Monteith 1950-75 caught my eye. Made from mostly grey and pink leftovers with blue paths running across it and one tartan square! I used up fabrics from my stash – my leftovers 🙂

I like the QA mission statement very much! And I like your quilt–the paisley background sets off the bold shapes so nicely!
