Gift Ideas for Quilters

Beginner quilters often ask me what equipment they will need to get started on their new hobby.

Once you have your basic board, ruler and cutter, a sewing machine with a quarter inch foot, some cotton fabric, thread and a pattern you’re off………………..but there are other things you’d like……………and maybe now is the time to put a little list together for those around you who would like to help you on your way and are looking for ideas for gifts.

So how about some of these?

A walking foot for straight line quilting (let them know the make and model of your machine)

A free motion foot for free motion quilting

A jellyroll –  precut coordinated fabric – modern/batik/retro…… – let them know your preference

Fine Pins (Clover are good)

A small ruler (Creative Grids  non-slip 3″ x 12 ” is very useful)

Cotton threads – neutral (mid grey/cream) Gutermann/Aurafil – do you have a preference?

A class at your local quilt shop

A magazine subscription

A bobbin holder

Mini Charm packs are great stocking stuffers! ( 2 1/2″  or 5″ squares )

Unbirthdayeighths

(patchwork fabric tied up with ribbon)

Your local quilt shop  staff will be pleased to help you put a selection together.

Friends might like to buy something for advanced quilters, if only they knew what to buy.

So how about some of these?

A table extension for you machine

Replacement  45mm rotary blades

A fat quarter bundle

An interesting ruler – EZ Simplicity Studio have lots – Drunkards Path/30 degree triangle/ ………

A gift certificate for your local quilt shop

A book by your favourite designer

PurchasesOQuilters

(a jellyroll)

Instead of buying wrapping paper, use patchwork cotton fabric. It saves trees and you might as well spend your money on fabric! Also try and support your local quilt shop, it’s small business Saturday tomorrow!

I hope this helps, I’d love to hear from other quilters. What would you put on your list?

Suggestions welcome!

I’m just playing with it now, such fun prints! Is there anything you’d add?
