Hemingway House

Thought I’d share a few pics of our recent holiday, a trip across the Florida Keys.

The weather was beautiful and the scenery amazing.

While we were in Key West we visited the house and gardens of the writer Ernest Hemingway.

The guided tour was interesting and not too long, it was so hot (90 degrees) and there’s no air conditioning. Ceiling fans had been replaced with chandeliers, back in the day.

Some of the plants in the gardens had been brought back from his travels.

They have about 50 cats on the property, many of them with the famed “lucky” six toes.

These tiles laid outside were collected by Pauline Hemingway, a little patchwork inspiration!

In the bookshop I spotted these cross stitch kits for sale in a few relevant designs. What a great idea!

We only had a week and it went so fast but we managed to squeeze in some swimming, snorkeling and a few cocktails  🙂

I’d love to read a good biography on him. He seemed so common in his writing, but pretty complicated as a person. Either way…I’d put up with a few cats to have a view like that! Thanks for sharing!

Looks like a lovely trip, and those floor tiles are just beautiful! Love the pic of the cat behind the flower pot… cats know how to relax in style!

I think it was so used to showing it’s paws it fell asleep like that!

I’ve never been to the Keys–it looks just wonderful! But, yes, very hot this time of year. Good thing cocktails were available, to re-hydrate! 😉
