stitching, quilting, fabric, projects
A very good friend had a significant birthday last week. She is a member of Jo Blox, our stitchy group that meets every fortnight and we have a tradition of making something special at times like these, from all of us. So there was plenty of stealth sewing, sneaking around gathering suitable fabrics (fun)! and discussing patterns.
We decided to go with the snowball variation block we also know as “the doughnut”. I’d written a tutorial for it for Timeless Treasures where I’d used it as a “hug” block for Quilts For Kids.
The instructions there were for 12″ and 6″ blocks. Going with a celebration theme, we decided these would be bubbles and we’d include 3″ “fizz” blocks in the same fabrics. Yes, we did wonder afterwards why?! – but actually they were quite fun and really cute.
Having divided up the background fabric, the blocks didn’t take long to come together. We managed to find a few evenings at short notice that everyone was free to join them. We took it in turns to quilt, bind, label and wrap (even with QuiltCon ).
And then we got to give her the quilt and open the Prosecco!
Happy Birthday Steph!
