Gutermann, fabric, thread and Amy Gibson

In case you hadn’t heard, Gutermann now do fabric. It’s 54″ wide and comes in pretty, summery colours. I’ve found it in John Lewis and my local quilt shops Emporia Fabric and Crafts in Ashford and The Sewing Space in Hythe both stock it.

This quilt in June Popular Patchwork magazine was designed to show off the big blousy flower prints and was inspired by the basketweave type print (Portofino collection). It’s a really simple, fast make and I used some matching bias tape to give it a 3D effect.

Gutermann is already really well known for it’s fantastic cotton thread. Hobbycraft had some on special offer last week – 1/2 price – would have been silly to pass that up………………….

………….. I’ve just got to find room in my Tiffany box for them!

I often recommend matching thread for piecing quilts, mid sludge became the description 🙂  – 6206 grey is my go to, I also picked up some 126 sludge green, and 919 cream, really good staples.

While I was at QuiltCon in February I got to interview Amy Gibson and have a sneak peak of her debut collection for Windham. It’s beautiful!

Meriwether, inspired by her childhood in Austria, is now shipping out to stores, so we should be seeing it out there soon.

(article also in June issue of Popular Patchwork magazine)

I hope it makes it over here to the UK as I’d love to get my hands on some!
