I’ve just made this tunic from a great pattern by Indygo Junction.
I’m a quilter! – not good with clothes, or choosing fabrics that look good when worn by me! The fabric I’ve used is designed by Hoodie and it’s about as patterned as I get. Maybe that’s why I quilt, I can use all the colours and prints I can’t wear. I love the fabrics shown here (by Amy Barickman) but they’d be no good draped on me.
There are four different ways to style the neckline and you can choose to add a zip or not. I summoned all of my strength and opted for the simplest version, wracked my brains trying to remember what I had learned at school about notches and darts, and plucked up the courage to cut the fabric.
I needn’t have worried, the pattern was very straight forward once I’d worked out which pieces I needed. It didn’t take long at all and amazingly it fits, not something I remember ever happening before. And I love the print!
(sorry not the best photo).
I should have clipped the curves around the armholes a little more before sewing the facings down – next time! – yes I’m thinking of making another one š

While I was feeling confident I made this. A covered button of mini buttons on a background of Essex linen, but now I’m too chicken to sew it on. I’m such a plain Jane, “Classic” is probably a better term. Maybe I’ll add it to a bag.

Quilters are so talented š
I like classic too š nice tunic!!
Thanks for your vote of confidence, I’m outside of my safety zone here! Love your sampler pouch.

So pretty! I love it! Maybe you can turn that adorable “button button” into a brooch so you can pin it on your new dress on a brave day! š
Haha, thanks for your kind words of support š
That looks so comfortable to wear and I think the fabric you chose is very classy.
Thank you Johanna!
It looks great – clever you!! Enjoy wearing it, and I love the brooch.
Nice job. It’s not too late to clip the curves. Or is it? If it is you could always try the old quilters trick of spraying those armholes with water and then giving them a good pressing. It’s great how we can apply our hard won skills across different domains, isn’t it?
It is too late as I’ve top stitched the facings down, I’m sure steam will do it. You’d think as I can sew I’d be better at this!
As a fellow Old Langtonian I am amazed that you look at any dressmaking. I am still traumatised by the stripy apron with embroidered pocket. The tunic looks very you though.
Thanks Tansy, maybe that’s why I have zero confidence. You should give it a try, these patterns are a good starting point to get over it and move on, it’s time!
Well done I have not made anything with fabric to wear for myself since school, it looks really good and I like the button.
Thanks Julie, maybe this is a place for you to start too!
Hi, missed the one before – tunic looks great and love the pattern, but you know you can wear a little more color – just give it a try!
Pink today then! – a little number I bought with some help in Rhode Island x
All your projects are really nice, and this one is a great Summer Wear. Blessings, Mtetar
Thanks Mtetar
You’re welcome and my pleasure always. Blessings, Mtetar
